3/3 E01 Poker Superstars Season 1 Episode 1

16/01/2011

The tournament was split into two series, with each player’s finishing position in the series final determining their starting chip count in the grand finale. Similarly, the finishing position in two preliminary rounds per series determined the starting chip positions of each player in both series finals. The Grand Final winner received 00000. The payouts for the other entrants from the 00000 prize pool were unclear in the broadcast. However, Phil Ivey has said, on Full Tilt, that he walked away with about 0000, and, therefore, broke even. In the first two rounds of each series, players start with 100000 in chips. Their finish in each of these rounds determines their starting chips for the final round of the series as follows: Finish 1. 250000 2. 150000 3. 112000 4. 88000 5. 72000 6. 56000 7. 40000 8. 32000 Series 1 Round 1 finish + Series 1 Round 2 finish = Starting chips for Series 1 Final Series 2 uses the same format. Finishes in each series final are then used to determine the Grand Finale starting chip count as follows: Finish – Finals 1. 500000 2. 300000 3. 224000 4. 176000 5. 144000 6. 112000 7. 80000 8. 64000 Series 1 Final finish + Series 2 Final finish = Starting chips for grand finale. Season 1 featured 8 competitors each paying 0000 to enter. (This 0000 entry fee is the largest in history)

On January 4, 2010, the show was broadcast in high definition for the first time. The Poker After Dark format features an “intimate look at one table as it develops over the week.”[1] Blinds start at 0/0 and slowly escalate. Commentator Ali Nejad’s commentary is limited, allowing viewers to hear much of the table talk among the players, all of whom are miked.[1] (The table talk occasionally reveals that the “week-long” series is taped in one long session.) The series was originally structured as a series of week-long No Limit Texas hold ‘em mini-tournaments for six top poker professionals. Each week the players vied for a 0000 winner-takes-all prize pool, with each paying a 000 buy-in.[5] By the end of the fifth show, a winner is determined. The sixth show is a “director’s cut” that includes excerpts from the action from the previous five days, interspersed with talking heads commentary from the participants. Beginning with Season 4, the producers began to experiment with different formats, including no-limit cash games, and a
