It is one of 43 lotteries which sells Mega Millions tickets, and one of 44 offering Powerball. In 2007, the Lottery funded Virginia’s K-12 public schools with 7 million, bringing its total (from 1989 to June 2010) to over . 55 billion. The lottery spends million yearly in advertising to promote its gambling activities. In recent years, it has outsourced its information technology to GTECH, a multinational firm that administers lotteries in many jurisdictions. Lottery tickets are sold through local retailers; the Lottery is prohibited by law from selling tickets directly through its headquarters, and from selling over the internet. FBI Shuts Down Online Poker Sites

Obama’s justice department led a massive crackdown on online poker sites, with the FBI indicting 11 people on charges of fraud, money laundering and illegally operating online gambling sites. The websites include three of the largest and most popular online poker forums, Full Tilt, Absolute Poker, and Poker Stars. Cato’s Julian Sanchez weighs in on the sudden crackdown.

Israeli wins big at Poker

World Series of Poker has an Israeli-born gold bracelet winner for the first time, as Tomer Berda won Event 56 in Las Vegas this week. His recent success has earned him US 5, his net total now stands at 5084. The 34-year old Berda moved in 1998 to California, where he currently owns a successful high-tech company. Starting slowly, Berda found recently that online poker games kept him challenged, but it was not until this year that he found his true passion in poker Berda joined the Texas Hold’em tournaments in Las-Vegas. Before Berda’s successful victory he had to endure 12 professional defeats. Berda now has one win, two final table appearances, and four cashes at the world series of poker.
